Two strong, morally-grey women recount their century-separated stories until they team up to bring Finn, a genderfluid ghost — Chloé’s true love and Alice’s only family — back to life.

Alice is horrified that her magic is burning her from the inside out. But it took six hundred years to become this powerful, so instead of letting the excess go, she hoards it. But magic stored outside the body is dangerous and unpredictable. Alice is devastated when it kills her only family, the genderfluid Finn.

A hundred years later, Finn — now a ghost — guides whip-smart Chloé through her unsupervised adolescence and onto nursing college, steering her closer to living in a real home rather than a camper, all the while trying to curb her criminal inclinations. Finn and twenty-one-year-old Chloé fall in love.

Chloé’s ecstatic to discover that Finn, if not killed, could live forever. Alice is astonished her stored magic catalyzes time travel. All Alice wants is a family, so Chloé persuades her to travel back and reverse Finn’s death.

But if Finn remains alive, it’ll remove the ghostly fingerprints from Chloé’s life choices, utterly changing her as a person. While Alice must risk plunging herself into volatile time-travel magic, Chloé gambles her past, her personality, and therefore her future to bring her true love to life.

The Unwicked Witch explores the themes of benevolence overcoming greed, choices shaping personality, and that gender shouldn’t dictate life’s opportunities, all amongst sleight touches of environmentalism.

This adult romantic fantasy with forays into Irish and Canadian history, is set in North Vancouver alongside the same fantasy world as CROWS OF TRUIMPH and ÉTAÍN’S DAUGHTER.

THE UNWICKED WITCH, was a quarterfinalist in Pulp Literature Press’s First Page Match. Chapter Six, adapted into a short historical fiction called North Vancouver, won third place in Vancouver’s 27th Annual North Shore Writing Competition. My two published short stories, Ghost Story and Gender Neutral, along with the history of my hometown of North Vancouver, inspired the events and characters.

Nineteen-year-old Bryar wants nothing more than to graduate from Esplanade Ballet‘s aspirant program with an invitation to the Company. But discovering her inherited immortality, Bryar has a limited number of years before her agelessness becomes obvious, and if not adequately concealed, Ireland’s gods will kill her.

Staying undercover in the modern world costs a fortune and Bryar needs money lickity-split. A mentor advises her to divorce rich men.

But when ongoing evenings of debaucherous dating weakens her dance performance, Bryar must choose between accumulating enough money to keep safe from prying eyes. Or have enough belief in her own immortality plan to gamble on true love and a ballet career.

This contemporary fantasy with romantic elements is set in North Vancouver alongside the same fantasy world as CROWS OF TRUIMPH and THE UNWICKED WITCH. The Least of Myself, a short story published with Pulp Literature Press, is a scene in this novel.

Crows of Triumph

DUOLOGY: Crows of Triumph and Crows of Affinity.
CROWS OF TRIUMPH

Currently needs rewriting.

Eighteen-year-old Olivia must prove she’s magical enough to claim her immortal life, and join the fight against human defilement of the environment — at the Tuatha Dé Danann’s behest. Or die. But quickening this magic requires embracing their risqué mores: gender is irrelevant, monogamy inconceivable, and romantic partnerships are group affairs.

This contemporary fantasy with romantic elements is set in North Vancouver alongside the same fantasy world as ÉTAÍN’S DAUGHTER and THE UNWICKED WITCH. Writing CROWS OF TRIUMPH duology was instructive in developing my craft and instrumental in building my unique fantasy world. I’m excited to rewrite this story and share it with the world.
